Canva export guide

Convert Canva to Google Slides

The editable route is Canva → PowerPoint → Google Slides. Export a .pptx from Canva, then use SlideRelay or Canva's Google Drive option to create the native Slides copy.

Manual Canva workflow

Export the deck, then import it

Use Canva's Microsoft PowerPoint export when you need the source's native text and shapes to have a chance of remaining editable.

  1. Open Download

    In Canva, open Share → Download for the presentation you want to move.

  2. Choose PowerPoint

    Select Microsoft PowerPoint, choose the pages, and download the .pptx file. Canva documents this in its official presentation export guide.

  3. Upload to Drive

    In Google Drive, choose New → File upload, then follow Google's Office-file import workflow.

  4. Save and review

    Choose File → Save as Google Slides, then check fonts, wraps, crops, effects, animations, and media.

SlideRelay starts after the Canva export. It does not need a Canva login or access to your Canva account. Choose the downloaded PPTX once and it creates the native presentation directly in your Drive.

Save the PowerPoint export to Drive

Canva can send the presentation to Google Drive, but the handoff is still a PowerPoint file. Open that .pptx in Google Slides and save the native copy.

  1. Choose Google Drive

    From Canva's Share menu, choose Google Drive as the destination and connect the account you want to use.

  2. Save as PowerPoint

    Choose Microsoft PowerPoint and the destination folder. Canva writes the .pptx export to Drive.

  3. Open and save

    Open the PPTX with Google Slides, then choose File → Save as Google Slides and review the result.

Choose the tradeoff

Editability or visual fidelity?

No export route preserves every Canva behavior. Choose the format around what you need to do in Google Slides.

  1. Choose PPTX for editability

    Use the PowerPoint route when people need to edit text, move shapes, or reuse slide elements. Review the imported deck because fonts, fitting, crops, and effects can change.

  2. Choose images for appearance

    Use one image per slide only when preserving the current visual appearance matters more than editing the content. Text, charts, tables, and shapes inside the images will no longer be native objects.

Canva-specific limits

The PPTX export sets the ceiling

Google cannot restore structure Canva has already flattened or omitted. Inspect the exported file when a particular element matters.

TextCan remain editable, but Canva font names, substituted fonts, line wrapping, and text fitting can change after import.
Simple shapesCan remain native. Canva-specific gradients, shadows, transparency, and effects may be simplified.
Charts and tablesCanva may export these as pictures rather than native PowerPoint chart or table objects.
Photos and cropsRemain images. Review crop position, masks, and effects in the Google result.
Animation and mediaReview transitions, timing, audio, video, and application-specific effects after export and import; they may be simplified, omitted, or behave differently.
Templates and Brand KitThe pages can move, but Canva template controls, Brand Kit behavior, and licensed editing features do not become Google Slides features.
